New procedures for the Suspension and Expulsion of School Students
The Director General of the department of Education and Training released new procedures for the Suspension and Expulsion of School Students in Term 4 1998. These procedures are to apply as from the beginnings of the 1999 School Year. All schools are required to advise parents that there are new peocedures and that a copy can be obtained from the school. If any family would like a copy please ask at the school office.

School Grounds
Parents are asked to let their children know that no one should be in the school grounds after school hours or during the weekend. People using the cricket nets have caused problems for neighbors.
The simple rule is that no one should be in the school grounds after school. Can I ask for your co-operation by discussing this with your children (especially teenage).

Swearing
Sometimes some of the children are heard swearing at school. This is one area we are to be very serious about stopping.
Children have been told at assembly that swearing will not be tolerated. The teachers have been asked to report incidents of swearing. The following procedure will apply:

  1. First offence - name recorded and warning given
  2. Second offence - letter to be sent home to parent
  3. More offences - parents will be asked to come to school to discuss the issue with their child

Please talk to your child about this issue and we hope you agree it is an area that is important and needs to be treated seriously.

Australian Red Cross
Do you have a kind and generous heart and a spare 5 minutes each morning between the hours of 8am and 9am then the following information is for you. Telecross - a program run by the Australian Red Cross is current recruiting volunteers to make a daily phone call to a member of the local community, who is generally frail aged, disabled or medically at risk. This program enables these members of the community to maintain their independence by being able to live in their own homes. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer caller contact, Di Rodgers +61 2 49912072 Monday to Friday.

Uniform Shop
If anyone has a fold up screen they no longer use would they like to donate it to the uniform shop. We would like to have one so that the children can change behind it. Thank you.

Sun Protection Information for Parent Newsletters
This summer parents need to be as vigilant as ever about their children's sun protection as unprotected exposure to the sun in the first 15 years of a child's life more than doubles their chance of getting skin cancer later
on.

New research into children's sun protection was released in December
1998 to coincide with the launch of the Summer VS/'99 Sun Protection
Campaign
of the-NSW Cancer Council and NSW Health.

A survey of more than 800 NSW parents indicated that while they intended to protect their children from the sun, they were not taking all the necessary precautions. while 98 per cent of parents surveyed thought there was a lot they could do to protect their children from the sun, only 18 per cent had adequately protected their children on a recent outdoors occasion. Patents reopened using either sunscreen, or clothing or hats rather than a combination of all three.

This research has provided the basis for a new refined campaign to remind parents of the need to slip and slop and slap when it comes to providing sun protection le. slip on a shin and other clothing that covers the skin, slop on 30+ sunscreen and also slap on a broad brimmed hat or legionnaire style cap.

So, next time you take your children out in the sun make sure you put those good sun protection intentions into practice. Vigilance about - using a combination of sun protection practices is an excellent investment for their health later on.

You won't leave a gap if you Slip AND Slop AND Slap
